Sydney Football Stadium Design Unveiled

The winning design for the future Sydney Football Stadium was released today after an intense design competition between the best architectural firms in Australia.

A Design Excellence Competition, in line with the City of Sydney Local Environment Plan 2012, was run to ensure the highest standard of architectural, urban and landscape design.

The winning design for the façade, roof and public realm was submitted by Cox Architecture and Aspect Studios.

The proposed design of the new stadium and site has been developed to minimise impacts on the local community and increase access whilst integrating features such as seating, public art, and active play spaces to improve amenity and the public experience. The new design also increases the number of trees and extent of landscaping on the site.

Some key elements of the design include:

  • new public domain areas
  • enhanced pedestrian access
  • safer, easier access for people with mobility impairments
  • 100% drip line roof coverage
  • 360-degree pedestrian circulation zone
  • a range of seating types

Cox Architecture and Aspect Studios beat two other highly regarded firms in an intense design competition.
