Demolition work makes way for new Western Sydney Stadium
Western Sydney’s future 30,000 seat stadium at Parramatta is one step closer to reality with demolition work of Pirtek Stadium now under way.
Minister for Sport and Minister for Western Sydney, Stuart Ayres, said the new venue will cater for bigger crowds, provide an improved game day experience and bring major benefits to the Western Sydney economy.
“Demolition of Pirtek Stadium is now under way, a major step in delivering the biggest investment in sporting and entertainment infrastructure since the 2000 Olympics,” Mr Ayres said.
“Western Sydney Stadium will not only attract world class sporting and entertainment events, but offer Western Sydney’s economy a massive shot in the arm, employing 1200 people during construction and more than 900 people once operational. Hundreds of items from seats to catering equipment, lockers, lighting and corporate furniture were gifted to community sporting organisations from as far away as Moree and Wagga Wagga, with larger items repurposed at WIN Stadium and McDonald Jones Stadium in the Hunter.”
