NSW Government Principles for Partnership with the Construction Industry

About

The NSW Government Principles for Partnership with the Construction Industry seek to address current sector challenges while encouraging improved collaboration between government and the construction industry and aligning efforts to deliver the $119.4 billion infrastructure pipeline for the benefit of the people of NSW.

New challenges and priorities require a refresh of the principles that underpin the partnership between government and industry. Given this progress, the NSW Government has the following Principles for Partnership with the Construction Industry:

Build up domestic manufacturing

Ensure safety and wellbeing

Boost productivity

Invest in skills and local jobs

Enhance industry culture and diversity

Improve financial sustainability

Decarbonise to achieve Net Zero targets

Delivery of the Principles will be achieved through active partnership between government and all construction industry participants including contractors, sub-contractors, unions and workers throughout the construction supply chain.

The Principles are designed to:

  • Deliver on the government’s priority of building more homes and essential infrastructure for the people of NSW.

  • Address current sector challenges while encouraging improved collaboration between government and the construction industry.

  • Stimulate the local construction industry, increase participation of local businesses and provide ongoing opportunities for the local workforce.

  • Creating a more flexible and accessible government procurement framework and system to increase opportunities for small and local businesses.

  • Building up local manufacturing capabilities, whilst developing a skilled workforce and promoting the use of locally produced goods.

  • Provide an opportunity for NSW Government to outline its key priorities and expectations for the construction sector.

The Principles were developed in consultation with government and industry.

The NSW Government also remains committed to transparency of its project pipeline, to attract investment and early industry engagement in the design, construction, management and operation of major infrastructure projects across NSW. Accordingly, the NSW Infrastructure Pipeline will be updated regularly by Infrastructure NSW.

Delivering the Principles for Partnership

The NSW Government Construction Leadership Group is working with agencies to monitor delivery of the Principles for Partnership. Infrastructure NSW will document progress against the Principles for Partnership through the publication of annual Progress Reports.
