Clarence Correctional Centre

A new correctional centre providing safety, security and positive management of inmates.

About

Infrastructure NSW oversaw the design and construction of the  Clarence Correctional Centre between 2017 and 2020. The prison is located in Lavadia (approximately 12.5km southeast of Grafton), accommodates up to 1,700 inmates.

It features state of the art security and surveillance and focuses on rehabilitation to help reduce the rate of reoffending.

Benefits of the project include:

  • about $560 million injected into the local economy over the next 20 years
  • long-term, local economic opportunities through the procurement of a range of goods and services
  • up to 1,100 construction jobs and 600 operational jobs created
  • addressing the critical shortage of correctional centre beds and facilities within NSW.

The project was delivered by the NSW Government in partnership with the NorthernPathways consortium consisting of John Holland, Serco, John Laing and Macquarie Capital. The Clarence Correctional Centre officially opened on 25 July 2020.

The NSW Government also oversaw the delivery of an upgrade to Avenue Road as well as the provision of utilities including power, telecommunications and water.
